Noa Paran

GAGA MOVEMENT, OHAD NAHARIN REPERTORY - ISRAEL

Noa Paran was born in Israel in 1986. She trained as a dancer in the Kadima community Center. From 2007-2010 was part of the Batsheva Ensemble, and danced in works by Ohad Naharin and Sharon Eyal. She also choreographed two dances for the Batsheva Dancers Create platform.

Noa performed as a collaborating dancer in the peace “Physical Education” by Maya Levy & Hanan Anando Mars, and took part in the 15th International Solo-Dance-Theatre Festival Stuttgart with the peace “Celebration of the Lion” by Luc Jacobs. Noa began teaching Gaga in 2008 in Israel and around the world. She gives classes to the Batsheva Ensemble, and taught in the Gaga Teacher Training Program. Noa teaches regularly in the gaga people classes in Israel and in dance schools and workshops in Israel and around the world.

She is currently preforming in a new project - a piece choreographed by Noa Zuk and Ohad Fishif titled ״Garden of minutes".

Gaga is a movement language which Ohad Naharin developed over the course of many years and which is applied in daily practice and exercises by the Batsheva Dance Company members.

Check out this video in which Ohad Naharin discusses Gaga Movement: https://youtu.be/OGPG1QL1vJc

The language of Gaga originated from the belief in the healing, dynamic, ever-changing power of movement. Gaga is a new way of gaining knowledge and self-awareness through your body. Gaga provides a framework for discovering and strengthening your body and adding flexibility, stamina, and agility while lightening the senses and imagination. Gaga raises awareness of physical weaknesses, awakens numb areas, exposes physical fixations, and offers ways for their elimination. The work improves instinctive movement and connects conscious and unconscious movement, and it allows for an experience of freedom and pleasure in a simple way, in a pleasant space, in comfortable clothes, accompanied by music, each person with himself and others.

Gaga has two tracks: Gaga/people and Gaga/dancers.

This workshop gives the participants an opportunity to learn excerpts of Ohad Naharin’s choreographic works from the company’s dancers and teachers.  In this class, dancers apply their training in Gaga to the repertory.

* It is highly recommended that students register for both the Gaga Movement Language class and the Ohad Naharin Repertory class as they compliment each other. Dancers may take the Gaga class and not the Repertory, but they may not take the Repertory without being enrolled in the Gaga class.
